What is Zithromax for?

Zithromax is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacterial cells. It is used for treating various bacterial infections. Zithromax may also be used for the treatment of sexually transmitted infections caused by chlamydia. The drug is ineffective for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Tjhere is also Generic Zithromax available.

• pneumonia
• liver disease
• colitis
• other chronic illness
• allergy to antibiotics

Also inform your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breast-feeding.

How is the medication taken?

Zithromax tablets are taken orally. Stick to the directions on the label. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. You can take Zithromax tablets with or without food. Take your doses at the same time every day. Avouid taking your medicine more often than recommended. Do not discontinue taking Zithromax even if you feel better. Complete the full coursw preascribed to you. Only your doctor may tell you when to stop taking it or change your dose.

What should I do in case of missing a dose?

If you miss your dose of Zithromax dose, and not too much time has passed, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time fo the next dose, skip the dose you missed and continue taking the drug as usual. Never take extra doses of the drug, this may cause harm to your health. An interval of at least 12 hours shouyld be observed between the doses.

What drugs are contraindicated to be taken with Zithromax?

• digoxin
• astemizole
• dihydroergotamine
• antacids
• magnesium salts
• terfenadine
• warfarin
• ergotamine

Inform your health care professional about all other medictions you are taking, including nutritional supplements or herbal products. Also tell your health care professional if you are a frequent user of alcoholic beverageas or drinks containing cafeine. These may have an impact on the way your medication works. Consult your health care professional before stopping or starting any medicines.

What side effects may I experience while taking Zithromax?

You may experience no side effect at all. Butif you do and they persist, check with your doctor immediately.

The serious side effects include:

• dark urine
• severe diarrhea
• skin rash
• itching
• difficulty breathing
• irregular heartbeat,
• yellowing of the eyes or skin
• or chest pain
• sickness or vomiting

Side effects that usually do not represent serious risks for your health are the following:

• diarrhea
• drowsiness
• hearing loss
• dizziness
• headache
• sensitivity to light
• sickness
• stomach pain
• exhaustion
• vaginal irritation and discharge

Inform your health care professional if you do not experience any change in your condition in 2 - 3 days. Contact your doctor immediately if you get an allergic reaction to the medication.

What is the shelf life of the pills?
