What are Zoloft tablets?
Zoloft is an antidepressant. It helps to improve a depressed person’s mood. Zoloft can also help people with an obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, post-trauma stress, or social anxiety. Zoloft may also be prescribed for other purposes, like premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe type of premenstrual syndrome. Generic Zoloft tablets are available.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
- bipolar disorder or a family history of bipolar disorder
- diabetes
- heart disease
- liver disease
- receiving electroconvulsive therapy
- seizures (convulsions)
- suicidal thoughts, plans, or attempt; a previous suicide attempt by you or a family member
- an unusual or allergic reaction to Zoloft, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
- pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- breast-feeding
How should I take this medicine?
Take Zoloft tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. You may take Zoloft with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your prescriber’s advice.
Do not use this medication in children unless you have been specifically instructed to do so by your health care provider. What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double or extra doses.
