What is Proscar?

Proscar is a synthetic 4-azasteroid compound medication. The active ingredient in Proscar is finasteride which is dispensed as oral tablets (5mg).

Drug Uses

Proscar is prescribed to treat BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in men suffering with an enlarged prostate. Men over the age of 50 are prone to enlargement of the prostate gland. The enlarged gland constricts the uretha, resulting in various urination problems. The active ingredient in Proscar helps shrink the enlarged prostate gland, thereby facilitating a normal flow of urine. This may avoid the need for surgery.

Dose
