What is Prilosec?
Prilosec is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) drug used to treat a variety of gastrological conditions. Prilosec is also used to treat other medical conditions as determined by a doctor.
Drug Uses
Prilosec is prescribed to treat stomach ulcers, duodenal ulcers, erosive esophagitis, heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux disease, pathological hypersecretory conditions (excessive production of hormones), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas (benign tumors), and systemic mastocytosis (cancerous cells). Prilosec works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
Prilosec may be combined with other antibiotics to treat ulcers caused by the H.pylori bacteria.
Dosage
Always use Prilosec exactly as prescribed by your doctor. For best results take your dose before meals. Prilosec may be used with antacids. The capsule should be swallowed whole
