What is Paxil?
Paxil belongs to a group of drugs called SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). The active ingredient in Paxil is paroxetine hydrochloride which is formulated as film-coated tablets in strengths of 10mg, 20mg, 30mg and 40mg.
Drug Uses
Paxil must be prescribed by a doctor. This drug is used to treat major depressive disorder, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), social anxiety disorder, general anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorders, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (physical and mental problems linked with the menstrual cycle). Paxil is also used to treat other conditions as determined by a doctor.
Dosage
Always use Paxil exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Paxil should be taken as a single daily dose taken in the morning, with or without food.
Missed Dose
If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as you remember, as long as it does not clash with the next scheduled dose. In this case, rather skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose.
Precautions
When treatment with Paxil is discontinued, a gradual decrease in the dosage is recommended.
In the early stages of treatment with Paxil, some patients may have suicidal thoughts. Family members, or care-givers, should report any changes in mood or behavior to the patient
