Lexapro belongs to a group of drugs called SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) which are taken orally to treat depression. The active ingredient in Lexapro is escitalopram oxalate which is formulated in tablets available in doses of 5mg, 10mg and 20mg. Lexapro is also available in an oral solution.
