What is Efferox?

Effexor is a SSNRI (selective serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) antidepressant. The active ingredient in Effexor is venlafaxine hydrochloride which is formulated as oral tablets in strengths of 25mg, 37.5mg, 50mg, 75mg and 100mg.

Drug Uses

Effexor is available by prescription only. Effexor is an effective treatment for major depression, anxiety and panic disorders that have not responded to other types of antidepressants. Effexor may be prescribed to treat other medical conditions as determined by a doctor.

Dosage

Always use Effexor exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Effexor should be taken with food.

The usual starting dose is 75mg per day, taken in two or three equally divided doses. Depending on efficacy and individual response, the dose may be increased to 150mg per day. If necessary, the dose can be further increased up to 225mg per day for moderately depressed patients. Severely depressed patients may need up to 375mg a day, divided into three equal doses.

Never increase or decrease your dosage of Effexor without consulting a doctor, and never discontinue treatment with Effexor without speaking to your doctor. Sudden cessation of treatment with Effexor can lead to serious withdrawal symptoms.

If Effexor is being used to treat other medical conditions, dosages may differ from those mentioned above.

Missed Dose

If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as you remember, as long as it does not clash with the next scheduled dose. In this case, rather skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose.

Precautions

In the early stages of treatment, antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts or actions. Members of the patient
