What is Depakote?

Depakote is a drug used to treat seizures and other conditions. The active ingredient in Depakote is divalproex sodium which is formulated as oral tablets in strengths of 250mg and 500mg. Depakote is also available in once-a-day extended release tablets (Depakote ER) in strengths of 125mg, 250mg and 500mg.

Drug Uses

Depakote is available by prescription only. Depakote is used to treat seizures and bipolar disorder (manic depression). Depakote is also effective in the prevention of migraine headaches. Doctors may prescribe Depakote to treat other medical conditions.

Dosage

Depakote should be taken as prescribed by a doctor. Never increase or decrease the dosage without your doctor
