What is Clomid used for?

Clomid is a fertility drug for women used to increase the chance to get pregnant. The drug helps women ovulate properly. Compared to other treatments for inreasing fertility, Clomid does not greatly increase the chances of having twins. An increased chance of having multiple babies may occur in 5 out of every 100 women who use Clomid. Occasionally Clomid may be prescribed to men with fertility problem.

What should I inform my health care provider about before I start taking this medicine?

Inform your healthcare provider if nay of the following condition listed apply to you:

• blood vessel disease
• blood clots
• cyst on the ovary
• daibetes
• liver disease
• from depression
• ovarian carcinoma
• you are a heavy smoker
• you use alcoholic beverages
• unusual vaginal bleeding that has not been diagnosed by a gynecologist
• allergic reaction to any omponent of Clomid
• if youn are pregnant or breast-feeding

How should the medication be taken?

Clomid tablets are taken by mouth. Study carefully the information provided by your doctor or health care professional. Swallow the tablets with water. Take Clomid exactly as prescribed. Take your medicine at the same time every day to avoid forgetting to take it. The normal duration of the treatment course with Clomid is 5 days. But it may adjusted in some certain cases. Only your doctor may change your dose or duration of the treatment course.

This drug is for use in adults only.

What to do in case if I miss a dose?

It is important that you remember to take Clomid each day. If you miss your dose of Clomid, take it as soon as you remember. If too miuch time has passed already, check your doctor for advice.

What drugs should not be used with Clomid?

• nutritional supplements, like chasteberry, blue cohosh, black cohosh or DHEA
• prasterone

Tell your doctor before starting Clomid aboutv all other drugs you are taking, including non-prescribtion medications. If you frequently use alcoholic beverages or smoke, inform your doctor about it as well.

What side effects may the drug cause?

Side effects that may turn detrimental for your health are the following:

• Sickness and vomiting
• severe abdominal pain
• pelvic pain
• bloating
• shortness of breath
• Vision changes: blurred vision, eye sensitivity to light,etc.

If you experience any of them, seek emergency medical care as soon as possible.

Side effects that usually are mild and should not be much worried about are:

Less common ones:

• dizziness
• lightheadedness
• sleeplessness
• irritability or nervousness
• headache
• changes in menstrual periods
• exhaustion

More Common ones:

• hot flashes
• increased sweating
• mild pelvic discomfort
• breast discomfort
• mild nausea

Important:

While taking Clomid you should be informed about when youb are ovulating and when to have sexual intercourse to increse the possibility of getting pregnant. For this you should be examined by your doctor regularly.

Stop taking Clomid and contact your doctor if you think you are preganat.
