What is Cipro?
Cipro is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. The active ingredient in Cipro is ciprofloxacin hydrochloride which is formulated as tablets and an oral suspension.
Drug Uses
Cipro is available by prescription only. Cipro is used to treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia, sinusitis, joint or bone infections, diarrhea, ear infections, skin disorders, and urinary tract infections. Cipro is also used to prevent anthrax after inhalation, and other medical conditions not mentioned in this article.
Dosage
Always use Cipro exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Dosage will depend on the severity of the infection and the type of infection. The period of treatment will also depend on the severity and type of infection. The usual period of treatment is 7-14 days - however serious infections may require extended treatment. Cipro does not have to be taken with food.
If you need to use an antacid containing magnesium or aluminum, or other medications to treat stomach ulcers, Cipro should be taken at least two hours before, or six hours after, such medications. The same time frame applies when taking products that contain calcium, zinc or iron.
Cipro tablets should be taken in the morning and evening at the same time every day. The tablet should be swallowed whole
